Commissioned Films

Commissioned films are nearly always for institutions or companies that have something to do with science – for schools or engineering firms, in HD format or filmed with a small camera.

I love complexity. And I especially love making it intelligible for a wider viewing audience. I love everything about it – the research: discovering for myself what it is all about, digging much deeper than necessary; thinking about the form, what you do and what you do not want to show. In contrast to scientific TV programmes, commissioned films show the intentions of companies. And there is another party involved besides the maker and the subject being filmed — the client. In effect, when making a commissioned film, you have to create an entirely new format every time. In that sense, it is more difficult than making a good film for an existing programme. Fortunately, I love complexity.
